How Sembrando Paz y Esperanza Was Founded

Founded in 2014, Sembrando Paz y Esperanza grew out of Yenni Martinez's determination to build hope and opportunity in Comuna 13, Medellin. Her vision did not come from privilege. It came from surviving poverty, displacement, wrongful imprisonment, and the violence that shaped her neighborhood.

Standing on La Perilla, a neglected plot that had become a garbage dump, Yenni imagined something different. She imagined children running freely, away from the pressures and dangers that had marked her own youth. She imagined a place where they could be guided, mentored, and encouraged to dream bigger.

With the support of Andres and the Los Sembradores movement, she began clearing the land by hand. What started as a simple effort to reclaim space became a soccer field and, eventually, a wider community project rooted in discipline, care, and perseverance.

That field became more than a place to play. It became a symbol of resilience and a reminder that even in places marked by hardship, hope can be planted and protected.

Sembrando Paz y Esperanza has grown into a community effort that supports children and young adults as they build safer and more hopeful futures.

Education and Mentorship

Through school support, workshops, and practical guidance, the foundation helps young people build skills, confidence, and long-term possibilities.

Football is used as a tool for discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. The community team gives young athletes a place to develop their talents, stay connected to positive role models, and imagine a different future.

Beyond programs and activities, the foundation offers a safe space where children feel seen, heard, and valued. Many have lived through difficult circumstances, and here they find encouragement, belonging, and a community that continues to show up for them.
